Transhumanism - is this the way to immortality?

Today, let’s discuss about Transhumanism defined by the Oxford English dictionary as:

“The belief or theory that the human race can evolve beyond its current physical and mental limitations, especially by means of science and technology”

Never heard it before? Or have you? For whatever it is, it does sound interesting, right?

Let’s explore it…

In my previous post, I mentioned the prediction by inventor and futurologist Ray Kurweil. He has a plan actually. He plans to never die. To quote “In order to achieve this goal, he currently takes over 150 supplements per day, eats a calorie restricted diet (a proven technique to prolong lifespan), drinks ionized water (a type of alkalinized water that supposedly protects against free radicals in the body), and exercises daily, all to promote the healthy functioning of his body; and at 60 years old, he reportedly has the physiology of a man 20 years younger.”

But he too knows that no matter what we do to our body, it will eventually deteriorate in natural ways. Everyone is prone to diseases and illnesses thus what he’s doing right now is just a strategy to prolong his life until technology develops cyborg vessels where he can continue his life and live forever when his biological body can no longer function.

Sounds fantastic and unreal? Let’s see the possibilities…

Did you know that a team of researchers in University of Minnesota recently just discovered, for the first time, fully 3D printed an array of light receptors on a hemispherical surface? This discovery marks a significant step toward creating a 'bionic eye' that could someday help blind people see or sighted people see better.

How about prosthetic limbs that serves as a replacement for the amputated one? You know that it does not feel anything like the real limbs, right? But did you know that by using Virtual Reality headset, it can now feel like it’s physically real? The brain sends signals through the VR to make the prosthetic limb feel everything that it gets in contact with.

Someday, all our body parts will be able to be replaced by bionic parts that could last for a very long, long time and if eventually, it begins to fail, it could always be replaced anytime.

Is this what they mean by immortality? Let’s wait and see. Keep watch and keep your minds open. We will continue to dig deeper...
