True Democracy through the Decentralized Internet

Did you know that there is no single person that can be pointed out as the inventor of the internet? The Internet was the result of the works initiated by scientists, programmers, and engineers who pioneered it and each one of them developed new features and technologies that combined later on and became the “information superhighway” we know today.

Initially, the mission of the internet was to build a neutral network, where the participants have equal rights to build humanity, thus the term decentralization came into the surface. It became so successful that companies realized that it is a great central server for gaining value through gathering, monetizing, and organizing information. It is for this reason that large companies such as Google, built their value as they grew massive centralized services on the internet.

So much for the centralized internet. Let’s go back to the main reason why the internet has become a massive success in the first place– decentralization. A decentralized internet builds a realm wherein it’s the user-powered technology that provides services such as banking, publishing, social networking, research, and communication among others, instead of the privately-owned organizations such as Google or Facebook. In a nutshell, these services are provided “by the people, for the people”.

This makes decentralized internet a true face of democracy as no company blinds you from anything. A peer-distributed network makes it a sharing of responsibility for services and information that run across servers of the clients’ apps, or on multiple merged servers. On top of that, the digital edifice of cryptographic technology promotes ethical behavior and provides accountability to the users.

In the world of decentralized networks, you have the ownership and control over how you use and share information. Using your personal private keys in accessing encrypted data keeps the information anonymous and secure. The decision to share it with someone else is yours to make. There will not be a need for a third-party company to do it for you. User information is available to specific retailers through direct smart contracts between chosen advertisers. This is very cost-effective for both retailers and consumers as it reduces irrelevant ads that may cost a fortune. User compensation is made available by sharing information to the advertisers who are using the same platform.

An example of this is the Virie Market. It is a trading platform that runs through a decentralized internet. Trading in this market allows the use of any currency, fiat or not. It also allows trading of goods and services without any restrictions and the need to use a third-party company. This means that it’s a lot of saving for the participants. As it is decentralized, it cannot block any user or his money. There are also no discriminative rules for the users whatsoever.

For the internet to be able to return to its original mission that actually brought it to success, users should find platforms like that of the Virie market to perform their trading and exchange. In this view, search engines must allow the democracy to choose how and what they search, increase the control over the results of searches, and have the freedom from any biased technological, corporate, and government policies. This should be able to create a stronger, and freer digital realm as the internet continues to succeed with its mission.
